Singing Is Beneficial For The Memory

A research made at the University Of Helsinki, Finland, shows that singing improves the memory and the mood especially in the early state of dementia. Singing has an effect on the working memory and executive function. Instead listening to music has a cognitive impact only in the later stages of dementia.

It is also a piece of good news that the effects of musical activity are not related to previous musical hobbies. The research shows that musical leisure activities like singing are easily applied to the care and rehabilitation of people with dementia. Memory functions can be maintained with active musical participation like singing in the early stage of dementia.
